I’m confused

I tried some videos before and wanted it to be strange and surrealism.

But I still don’t know how to make it be a film.

Vicky suggested me to use the same clothes to explore it more. So I tried to shoot again and added the concept of energy balance into the video.

From the concept of energy, I probably abandoned clothes. Because throat chakra and heart chakra have no connection with these clothes.

Amelia gave me some references, it’s helpful. But I think I need more time on finding references.

Fashion Media Lab

I’m always thinking of the energy balance when I am dealing with people.

People getting along with each other is a process of energy exchanging. Lower energy people are easily attracted by higher energy people. Unfortunately, I am a kind of lower energy person. I pay much attention to others and care about options from the outside world. My energy easily flowed to whom I care about. I think it’s because I am subconsciously used to rely on others and escaping problems when I have difficulties. Actually, all I need to do is focusing on myself and being confident and brave to solve problems.

So I started searching energy balance and found the concept of yoga which is about seven chakras.

There is an animation of The Illuminated Chakras which is filmed by Anodea Judith. She teamed up with Alex Wayne (digital art) and Robin Silver (music) to create a stunning visual and audio journey through the “wheels of life”.

From a personal perspective, I think the 5th throat chakra and the 4th heart chakra are important to me. Because the 5th throat chakra means self-expression and the 4th heart chakra means love.

By happy coincidence, I had a yoga class a few days ago. I was shocked by the yoga teacher’s chanting. So I want to add chanting to my film.

Similar chanting with my yoga class. I have invited my yoga teacher chanting in my film later.

I recalled the story object of pink quartz which is about reality and illusory.

I am always interested in experimental film, especially after the Aesthetica short film festival.

My favorite one

So I want to make an experimental film about Energy Balance. I want to visualize the process of energy exchange.

The Hidden Self

The group of Jack and Amelia holding two ideas of the identity and multifaceted of a person. I joined them with the concept of reality and illusory contrasting. Having been talked a lot about how to combine our idea, we wanted to show the contrast between the outside and inner side of a person. Amelia found the artist Huang Qingjun who is from China. He likes to shoot families with all of their objects to show their identity. Amelia thought of international students would have different objects to show their identities because of the cultural diversity.

Jack found a reference from La Cimade which is about prejudice. He also wanted to use a mirror to show two sides of a person.

I found a collection of clothes from CSM’s designer Jojo which could show the contrast of reality and illusory. Because clothes are kind of surrealism and not for daily wear. After many times of conversation, we decided to show the contrast between the outside and inner side of a person by showing their wearing and their objects.

Before the shooting day, I borrowed these clothes and planned to let Sophie and Timami wearing surreal clothes in their bedroom to represent the contrast. But Jack thought these colorful clothes did not suit for the identity shooting. We should present the actors’ real-life. So we changed exaggerated clothes for their wardrobe clothes. Actors presented a style which is completely different from their daily life.

Jack recorded videos and directed Amelia and me how to edit them. We wanted to present the effect of flash in the video and end with a zoom out from the actor’s face.

The first actor Sophie wore bright-colored orange top and pants in the video while she usually wears dull colors. We also set common objects like the computer, books to contrast with her clothes.

Edited by Amelia

Timami loves bright-colored clothes but she presented an office lady style in the video. We used strong visual objects such as a big helmet, mess clothes, colorful suitcase to contrast her formal suit.

Edited by Yve

After the presentation, Vicky told us the music of Timami’s video was a little bit empty. So I tried many versions with different background music and flash sound effect later.

I asked my classmates to watch and give some suggestions. Most of them fancy the original version but I fancy the second version as well.

Reality and Illusion

In Olafur Eliasson’s exhibition of “In Real Life”, I found some installations that may related to my story of STONE.

The first project is a multi-mirror tunnel and looked like a huge piece of metallic quartz. It makes real objects become illusions.

The second one is a magic light which can change people’ black shadow into color.

The last one is a room full of fog. You can not see anything unless you walk close.

A Stone

My object is a stone, it is a sad story. Three months ago,I wanted to buy a piece of pink rose quartz or crystal, because it is said that it can bring love. So, I looked for the rose quartz when I shopped in different vintage markets in London. Finally, I found a small stall located in Camden Market and sold various quartz or crystals. I bought a piece of pink quartz immediately by my credit card. I was excited I had the quartz. I even imaged a beautiful love story was coming to me. Guess what?I didn’t receive a lover, but I received a swindler. My credit card was fraudulently used by the seller of crystal. I thought it was him. I lost two thousand pounds. Luckily, the bank returned the money to me. At last, I threw the rose quartz into a bin and stopped fantasizing about unrealistic fairy tales. Now, I think the rose quartz is just like a stone.
